IUI is a procedure that treats infertility. It is also called artificial insemination. It boosts the chances of pregnancy y placing prepared sperm directly in the uterus. The prepared sperm are inserted in the uterus around the time the ovary releases one or more eggs. The goal is for the sperm and egg to unite in the fallopian tubes , which arise from the uterus and reach to the ovaries. If this happens then the fertilized zygote implants in the uterus, leading to a pregnancy. It is a very useful procedure for managing infertility in situations such as:

• Unexplained infertility

• Infertility related to endometriosis

• Mild male factor infertility

• Cervical factor infertility

• Ovulatory factor infertility
